Community Involvement
Not only are we real estate agents in the Okoboji and Spirit Lake area, we are residents and homeowners who understand that a community is only as strong as its people. We believe it is important to support local and national organizations that provide service and aid to the less fortunate. There are also environmental groups that work to conserve our lakes, woodlands and wetlands. We encourage you to browse some of their websites below and find out how you can take part in activities sponsored by these charitable organizations!
Bedell Family YMCA & Camp Foster YMCA
These YMCA facilities follow the national organization’s motto, “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.” Current programs at Bedell Family YMCA include the Strong Kids Campaign, which is designed to help struggling families participate in the facility’s programs. Camp Foster YMCA hosts numerous youth events and activities including boating education classes and overnight summer camps.
Humane Society of Northwest Iowa
The Humane Society of Northwest Iowa opened a new animal shelter in 1996 and provides food and medical care to stray, abandoned or homeless animals including cats and dogs. The organization hosts several ongoing fundraisers including a membership drive, kennel and cage sponsorships and auctions. Residents who are interested in volunteering at the shelter are encouraged to stop by and learn about the volunteer program.
Okoboji Foundation
Formerly known as the University of Okoboji Foundation, this is a permanent, unrestricted endowment fund created to support and finance projects in the Iowa Great Lakes Region for the betterment of the community and its residents. To date, the foundation has awarded close to $3 million in grants to a wide variety of organizations including Dickinson County Trails, Bedell Family YMCA, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Historic Arnolds Park, Pearson Lakes Art Center, and various others.
